Selling
Selling a work.
Rosenfeld Gallery provides a discreet and professional path for collectors and estates to realize value for significant secondary-market works.

Start here
If you have inherited a work or are considering a strategic deaccession, the first step is a confidential assessment.
Since 1970, we have specialized in the disposition of single works and entire collections. We help you navigate the choice between the speed of a private placement and the public competition of an auction, ensuring your interests remain the priority.

Private Sale
A private sale offers total confidentiality and price protection. We place the work with a vetted collector, family office, or institution from our private network. This route avoids the risk of a "burned" public record if a work fails to sell at auction and allows for flexible timing.
- Immediate fixed-price liquidity
- Discreet marketing outside the public eye
Auction Managed Consignment
For works with broad, competitive demand, we manage the auction process on your behalf. We negotiate the consignment terms, including the seller's commission, reserve price, and marketing placement, ensuring you receive the strongest possible net return from the major international houses.
- Transparent public competition
- Professional representation in negotiations
What we need to begin
To provide an accurate assessment, please prepare the following details:
Identification
Artist name, title of the work, year, and medium.
Dimensions
Height, width, and depth (if applicable), excluding frame.
Imagery
High-resolution photos of the front, back, and any signatures or labels.
Provenance
History of ownership, invoices, and any certificates of authenticity.
Methodology
The Process
Review
We review the details, images, and provenance documentation for the work.
Valuation
We provide an evidence-based assessment of the work's current market value and liquidity.
Strategy
We recommend the most effective route: a private sale through our network or a managed auction consignment.
Execution
We manage the entire transaction, from contract negotiation to professional logistics and payment.
On appraisals
To maintain strict professional independence, Rosenfeld Gallery does not perform formal qualified appraisals for works we are engaged to sell. A clear separation between valuation and disposition is essential for fiduciary protection and tax reporting.
Where a formal, USPAP-compliant appraisal is required for insurance, estate, or gift-tax purposes, we refer clients to a network of accredited independent appraisers across the country.
Unwavering Discretion
Discretion is the default of our practice. Our private sales protect your privacy and your position in the market. Nothing done on your behalf is announced, and no public record is created.
