Larry Rivers
American · 1923
Larry Rivers was a pivotal American artist who bridged Abstract Expressionism and Pop art, reintroducing recognizable subject matter — figures, commercial imagery, historical scenes — into a gestural, painterly idiom. His irreverent reworking of national icons, above all Washington Crossing the Delaware, made him a provocative and influential figure of the New York School. A jazz musician as well as a painter, Rivers worked across painting, drawing, sculpture and collage. His work is held in major museums and supports a solid secondary market. Rosenfeld Gallery handles secondary-market works by Larry Rivers across these mediums. To acquire or sell a Rivers, contact us for confidential advice on availability, value and provenance.
