Lucio Fontana
Italian-Argentine · 1899
Lucio Fontana was a pioneering Italian-Argentine artist and the founder of Spatialism, whose radical gesture — piercing and slashing the canvas — opened painting into real space and changed the course of postwar art. His Concetto Spaziale works, from the punctured Buchi to the elegant slashed Tagli, are among the most recognizable and influential images of twentieth-century abstraction. A cornerstone of major museum and private collections, Fontana commands a strong, liquid international market across paintings, works on paper and sculpture. Rosenfeld Gallery handles secondary-market works by Lucio Fontana.
