Artist Profile
Adolph Gottlieb
American · 1903
Adolph Gottlieb was a first-generation Abstract Expressionist and one of the movement's founding voices, known for two great bodies of work: the Pictographs, grid-based compositions filled with mythic symbols, and the later Bursts, in which a floating orb hovers above an explosive gestural mass. A signer of the famous 1943 letter that helped define the New York School, Gottlieb is represented in virtually every major American museum. His paintings, works on paper and prints support a solid, established secondary market. Rosenfeld Gallery handles secondary-market works by Adolph Gottlieb across these mediums.
