Anselm Reyle (German, b.1970) was born in Tübingen, Germany. He studied at Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart and Karlsruhe. In 1998, he moved to Berlin and opened a gallery community with other artists, such as John Bock (German, b.1965), Berta Fischer (German, b.1973), and Michel Majerus (Luxembourger, 1967–2002). In 1999, Reyle worked in the artists’ co-operative gallery Andersen’s Wohnung and Montparnasse. He worked for several art institutions in Germany, such as Berlin University of the Arts and Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg, where he was appointed as a professor of painting and drawing in 2009.

In his works, Reyle combines Abstract elements with various materials. For instance, his foil paintings are made of colored foil and Plexiglas, and his stripe paintings are made of car paint. For his African sculptures, he used traditional motifs and techniques, but with an exciting ambivalence regarding reflection and glaze. Since 2001, Reyle has worked in his atelier in Berlin with a team of assistants. 



The artist’s works have been shown worldwide, including at solo exhibitions held at Kunsthalle Zürich in 2006, Kunsthalle Tübingen in 2009, and Deichtorhallen, Hamburg, in 2012.
